DIY - Kitchen Makeover

I mentioned a while ago that I have been renovating my kitchen and it is a project still in the making. I will be working on the floor next, but I finally finished the walls and today would like to share my experiences here.

As I am living in my grandmother's old apartment and have kept her kitchen from 30 or 40 years ago (it's definitely vintage!), I had to make some compromises when trying to renovate the walls. Most of the cupboards wouldn't have survived an extraction and re-installation. Therefore we had to work around the furniture and needed to keep the tiling as well as the other wall decor. My only choice was to paint the wall paper and repair the damages on the lavender hangings.

My friend C. gifted me with some leftover paint that fitted perfectly into my color scheme. Prior to using the color, I painted the entire walls and ceiling white, as two coats of paint where needed to cover up the pattern of the old wallpaper completely.

Afterwards, I separated a square area with masking tape and painted that part of the wall with the gifted paint in a wonderful berry color.

The color turned out amazing and looks great together with the white furniture. I also put the white sideboard back and added some of my favorite decor pieces.

One issue has been the destroyed top border of the wall hangings. I decided to cover them up with a self-adhesive bordure with a coffee mug print.

It worked out well. With a ruler and a cutting board, I cut the border into broad pieces that fit the length of the wall. I started on one side and later carefully cut off the overlapping pieces at the other end of the wall.

What do you think about my little makeover? Any tips for further projects?
