Shoe of the Week – Flat Boots

Shoes are not just an object of utility, but for a lot of people shoes have become fashion accessories. Without them an outfit looks unfinished, but with a nice pair of shoes, an outfit feels better, looks nicer and is in the end the final point to a perfect outfit. We all know the issues with those shoes when the weather gets colder and uncomfortable. Especially those high heel lovers out there know the difficulties with snow and ice.

Flat Boots

My personal favorite for the colder season is the flat boot, preferably in brown and with some buckle detailing. Of course those are no hiking boots for walking-tours in deep snow, but for the city, they are perfect to warm those toes and still keep the feet fashionable. I decided to feature them before the Spring is in full mode and the weather too warm for wearing them.

The history of boots reaches back to ancient cave paintings that date around 12,000 BC. For thousands of years, boots have been footwear for more practical purposes, but were worn mostly by the higher classes. Boots were indicators for social status and wealth. Those boots were excessively decorated for men and women to show status and importance of their carriers. Especially for riding purposes and the military, boots had an important status, but were limited to the rich. Only during and after World War I, the boots got used by all classes (see more information on this by reading the history of Wellington boots). Since then, boots have become more and more the fashionable foot wear. Their popularity ebbs and flows, depending on the times, but they never totally go out of style. Problematic is their huge variety and those are really depending on current fashion.

For a Spring barbeque

Barbeque season is starting now that the weather is better. For a nice afternoon and evening with friends, a pair of jeans, a comfortable shirt and a long blouse work well. Of course don’t forget a warmer sweater and jacket for the night at the fire. After sundown, the temperatures drop quite quickly. With the boots, the toes will stay warm!!

For Sunday Brunch with the Boyfriend

Sundays start best with a long Brunch and some quality time with your man. Stay casual, but still chic in this combination.  It’s still a bit too cold for bare legs, but with some tights and the boots, those shorts can be very Spring appropriate. I styled the rest of the outfit in the maritime look.

For a dinner with the girls

When going out with the girls, it is time to dress up a bit. It should still be comfortable and the clothes should not be too tight, so the good food fits well :) Wear a flowing white shirt with cut out shoulders and pair it with a high waist skirt. Don’t forget the accessories. Go with one or two statement pieces like that necklace or the scarf and you are good to go!

Love the flat boots. The silky scarfves in the last two outfits are so pretty and vibrant. Nice pairing.
