Shoe of the Week – Wedges

During the warmer seasons, open shoes are not just a fashion statement, but they are a neccessity. Sandals are really pretty, but often come with no heel. Pumps have high heels, but they are too warm or the thin heels are uncomfortable for walking for a longer time. There is one solution to all those issues - pretty wedges. They can be styled like sandals, be open-toed pumps ore closed. with their one piece sole, they combine height and stability and are the perfect shoes for Spring and Summer. I love them and own them in several heel heights. I have probably nevere owned a more comfortable pair of shoes that came with heels.

Wedges were first worn in the 1930s. Designed by Salvatore Ferragamo, the shoe was first made out of cork and wood, as leather and rubber was reserved for the clothes of soldiers. Cork was very popular for the heel, as it was sturdy, but lighter as wooden heels. Women have always enjoyed shoes with heels, also during times of war and hard labor. The wedge shoe lost importance during the 60s, but resurfaced during the 1970s as extreme platform heels. They were big in fashion for men and women. In recent years, wedges were popular together with the maritime styling, designed with a cork heel and wrapped in rope. Today, you can find wedges in almost any styling, even as ankle boots. 

For running errands

Of course, you should not run in those shoes. But they are a more comfortable variation of high heels. You will probably be able to walk in them for a couple of hours depending on how well they fit you. Combine the shoes with simple capri pants in black, a white top in retro style and add somew color with a bright cardigan. It is simple and comfortable. You will be able to move freely all day.

For a coffee with the best friend

A flowy dress can heighten your mood in a second. This dress is inspired by the 60s shirt dresses. The red belt is a great contrast to the little polka dots and the leggings give some modesty to make the dress appropriate for a lot of occasions. Combine the outfit with a hair styling inspired by the era and you are ready to go.
