Flannel dress - yes, please!

1-IMG_7416

This Spring we have been experiencing ups and downs in weather that made me keep my warmer dresses out for just a bit longer and it gives me an excuse to introduce my lumberjack flannel dress here on the blog. I love the soft fabric and I feel instantly well-dressed for work. It is one of my more casual pieces, but it is oh so comfortable. In combination with black accessories it works really well and I can see myself wearing this a lot in Autumn and Winter as well. During that day it was especially cold and I added this warm and fluffy sweater to the outfit. It kept me nice and warm all day. Definitely had to pack that one away already, but it will be back out in Autumn for sure.

When it's cold and grey - wear red!

1-IMG_0995

It's no secret that I love Winter. Snow is my element but Winter often brings lots of cold and grey days as well. I am not the biggest fan of those dreary days and try to brighten up my outift with color to make this more bearable for me. My favourite color for the cold Winter months is red, a bright fireengine red, often with a blue undertone. I add it into my outfits mainly through accessories, but I've also got several pieces in my wardrobe, like this blouse, that make for a wonderful pop of color. What's your favourite color to wear during Winter or do you have other tips to brighten up a look during those grey Winter months?

Winter is in town

1-IMG_0816

Winter is my favourite season. I am a winter child, was born in January and love me some snow. I always wish for snow during Christmas, but these past years, we almost never had snow for that wonderful time of the year. Luckily Mr.B and I moved to a small village in the mountains last summer and this also means more snow!! So while everyone in my old hometown is dreaming of those white fields, we got them right in our backyard. It's beautiful, but of course brings some hassles as well, like to shovel snow. But Mr.B grew up with that and says it's a good workout, so I rarely have to do it myself. The snow makes for a great backdrop though and I got inspired to show you more outfits on this little blog once again. It was a bit more quiet here in 2017, due to our move and missing time, but I feel a lot more inspired now and want to get into a more frequent rythm once again. So here it goes, my first snowy post for 2018.

I wore my pretty tartan skirt by Vivien of Holloway and added a cardigan by the same brand to the look. Red and purple/green work really well together and that cardigan is an awesome staple in my wardrobe. I do need to add a couple more to my closet, as they got so many pretty colors. The wintery look wasn't complete without a woolen hat and scarf. This set was handmade by my mom. She is such a great crafter and I love all her knitted things. The brooch is something special that gives the cardigan a little something something. It was given to me by my mom and she got it from her mom at some point. Definitely a nice hand me down. I'll treasure it forever.

Comfort Zone - Business as usual

1-IMG_0156

When I am at work, I try to dress nicely. Jeans and T-Shirt are rarely my thing. This has evolved quite a bit since starting this job 5 years ago. I commute 3hrs a day and always dressed for comfort rather than looks. I did wear a lot of denim during that first stage of my new position. I did have all these nice clothes at home, sitting in my closet waiting for those "more fancy occasions" that basically never came around. I regretted getting dressed every morning and was even a little sad that we didn't have a stricter dress code at the office. Finally, I decided that the way I dress is not only up to the dress code at work, but it is up to me. I was stuck in a rutt and was a prisoner of my own comfort zone.

Today, I am glad that my office has such loose rules concerning the way we have to dress, which gives me so much freedom to experiment and utilize all thos pretty pieces in my closet. Of course, some days I still gravitate towards denim and I happily wear it, but I also use the options that I have in a more flexible way. I mix prints (as seen above), I don't shy away from wearing my vintage pieces anymore and yeah, I sometimes even add a petticoat to my 50s dresses, when I am in the mood for it.
My students get excited every day when I wear something creative to work and it's nice to have their support and receive a compliment here and there as well. So the look in this post is currently the minimum that I am doing every day - nice skirt with some tights, a blouse and a pretty jacket, maybe a scarf or matching jewelry. It's my new comfort zone, but I do want to take even more risks in the near future to stretch it again.

Tartan Chic

1-IMG_1940

Do you know the feeling when you want something for ages and never manage to get it? That's how I felt about a nice Winter circle skirt. Most of the time, the circle skirts are too short for me, have a fabric that wrinkles like crazy or don't look good without a petticoat. I have been searching for one for years and finally found VivienofHolloway, a British vintage inspired brand that sells retro looks made in the UK. I fell in love with their products right away, but was scared to order as they don't give skirt/dress length measurements and I was suspecting that the hem would not hit the knee for me as is my preferred skirt length. I am travelling to London in May and was planning to visit their store then, but I fell in love with their tartan skirts in Autumn and when the last batch of skirts came in online, I took the plunge and ordered this beauty. I am so glad I did. It has become a huge favourite of mine and the compliments that I am receiving every time do confirm that. The sizing is true to size and the length is perfect. Now, I definitely need to visit the store in May as I have my eye on several dresses as well!

Cold as Ice

1-IMG_0243

When the ground is frozen, walking makes such a nice sound. I love it and I do love winter for it. I also prefer bundling up for the cold over having issues on choosing the thinnest piece of clothing in the heat of summer. Nothing just as nice as layering! Ponchos are a really nice way of adding another layer to a look. They keep you warm and even look a little special and give every outfit a fun vibe, especially with fringes on. They are a bit of a hassle to wear underneath coats though. I never quite get them to stay put and they bunch up under my arms and just make it difficult to wear a coat. This version here has little holes for the arms that turns the poncho into a vest and I love that! I do travel by train to and from work and this vest works nicely as a blanket for my legs when the train is freezing cold (which happens more and more often - who needs aircon during winter?!). I also wanted to use this post to introduce my new purse to you all. It's a little handbag from Aldo that my mom got me during her last trip to Dubai. Just a little black bag with a pom pom. Love it!! Probably won't need another black handbag now, which saves me loads of money as I was thinking of getting a Chanel WOC in summer. Still considering, but it's a lot of money and this little beauty stores a lot more for a lot less!
